Did you catch the Golden Globes?

Its award season, and this week saw the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards.  The amazing list of nominees honored the best in TV and Film for the year 2014.

The winners list was nothing short of superb with films like “The Grand Budapest Hotel” winning Best Comedy/ Musical and “Boyhood” taking the award for Best Drama; actor Eddie Redmayne takes the award for Best Actor for the drama “The Theory of Everything” and  Julianne Moore, takes the award for Best Actress for her role in  “Still Alice”. There were many more great nominations and winners throughout the event.

The event is of course where the stars get their Glamour On. So let’s take a look at some of the best beauty picks for the Golden Globes this year.

First up Emily Blunt going for a boho braid crown paired complimented by Cocktail Peach blush. The makeup Artist Jenn Streicher used mascara to achieve a doe-eye look.

Nelissa Hilman @ Malaysia Fashion Week 2014

Italian trained designer Nelissa Hilman displayed a beautiful range of footwear at Malaysia Fashion Week 2014. Taking her designs from classical to edgy, the shoe designer creates pieces that will surely be the highlight of any outfit. Without compromising on quality, the shoes are made using Italian leather, and design for comfort and longevity.

The designer herself stands by the beautiful display of shoes.

With collaborative works with Swarovski, [Ay] A Studio Paris, Jonathan Liang and a few others, her wide range of beautiful footwear will have something for every girl.

On display was a pair of shoes from Nelissa Hilman’s collaboration with the late Sivam Selvaratnam, as well as a few other items. The unique collection was showcased in an exhibition titled “Rapt in Maya” in 2012 and was recently part of “The Art of Fine Fabrics” at Bank Negara Museum and Art Gallery.

Fairuz Ramdan @ Malaysia Fashion Week 2014

Malaysia Fashion Week 2014 saw Fairuz Ramdan launch his new and exciting collection. The British-born designer is pushing the boundaries of his brand, experimenting with colours and motives. Inspired by heritage, Fairuz Ramdan aims to bring modernize designs of local culture to an international audience.

New in 2014 is the first lady’s collection by Fairuz Ramdan.  Having launched the collection in Paris two weeks prior, the collection is an example of how the designer is taking to new heights.

Beautiful alluring and classically inspired pieces are given a modern touch by the designer.

Recap of Malaysia Fashion Week 2014

Malaysia Fashion Week (MFW) 2014 was held at Malaysian Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) center, from 20-22 October 2014. The event was collaboratively organized by Stylo International and Matrade with the support of the International Trade and Industry Ministry.

The fashion exhibition was exciting, with designers showcasing their latest collections for the upcoming season, with beautiful and elegant, edgy and artistic designs taking the stage. Many took inspiration from heritage, incorporating traditional patterns into modern pieces.

On the runway, designers such as Hazree Wahid, Joyce Wong, Fairuz Ramdan and many showcased their collection to the audience.

Ronal Alzate from the Philippines plays with textures and animal prints. Textile creativity give these designs an edge.

Joyce Wong incorporates prints, embellishments and embroidered lace in her designs. She also had an interesting play on the cutting.

Vietnamese designer Phong My's collection takes on classical elegance with colour blocking.

The exhibition also hosted many other names, amongst those is Mercedes-Benz Stylo Designer of the year 2012 designer Bill Keith.  Inspired by the local culture, particularly the Peranakan culture, he incorporates traditional peranakan designs into modern garments. Using a pastel colour scheme on Resort-Wear themed designs, Bill Keith gives old school charm a modern touch. Also incorporating elements such as the puny flower, making it perfect for seasons such as Chinese New Year.

Fashion house Coccha brings Bohemian styling to the fashion scene.  From sweet & edgy to grunge & chic, Coccha brings a different flavor to the crowd.

New comer Man Chien offers a fresh perspective on design. With a background in Art, her designs incorporate her artistic talents by directly painting onto the garments. Here her pieces are inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

We also met up with designer Nellisa Hilman. Displaying her collection of sexy and bold footwear, from leopard print flats to heel in camouflage.

There was a beautiful exhibition displaying creations by various designers and Mercedes-Benz STYLO Emerging Designers, The Youth of Malaysia. Some were inspiring while others intriguing and thought provoking.

The Youth of Malaysia Designers included Lorenzo Poh, Hanif Naim, and Shadow Chew. On display were their Avant-Garde creations made with common objects and impressive creativity.

Off The Rack Asia at Easter Extravaganza Bazaar

Nothing says hipster chic better than the bazaars at Markets@Jaya One.  On the 19th April, the folks down at Markets @ Jaya one had an Easter Extravaganza and we at OTRA are proud to say that we were one of the vendors lined up at the bazaar.

Lots of discounts and special promotions were given out that day, including items from Greedy Sassy, Sookie, Cloth Inc, Phat Culture, Fairuz Ramdan, fROLLic and Monstore. So if you happened to drop by our booth that day, boy were you in for a treat!

Golden Globes 2014 Best Dressed (according to us!)

The 71st annual Golden Globes has come and gone and the ladies of the night has left us gushing.

From left: Cate Blanchett’s black Armani, Laura Carmichale’s Oscar de la Renta strapless dress with gold embroidery, Lupita’s Nyong’o’s Ralph Lauren dress and Margot Robbie’s white Gucci dress were the dresses people were flashing their eyes upon.

From black lace goodness to glitter glamour, all four ladies were winners in our book.
